It is built...The Reformation Wall was created in 1909 in the Parc des Bastions, in the grounds of the University of Geneva, on the 400th anniversary of Calvin’s birth. It is built into the old city walls and in the centre includes a statue of Farel, Calvin, Bez and Knox all dressed the robes of Judges of Geneva. Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s choice to focus on a monument commemorating historical figures was to be seen as an act of memorial of the figures and not as an act of provocation - in the same sense that they wrapped two monuments of historical figures in Milan: Leonardo da Vinci in Piazza della Scala, and Vittorio Emanuele II in Piazza del Duomo both wrapped in 1970.Provenance
